The Lonar Lake, which was previously known as Lonar crate, is a popular monument which is situated at a place called Lonar, in Buldhana district of Maharashtra, India. The monument was formed after an asteroid collision with the surface of the earth during the Pleistocene Epoch. The diameter of Lonar Lake is 1.2 km and is situated below the crater rim which is 1.8 kilometer. The surrounding of Lonar Lake is covered by an oval-shaped basin that stands on top of 8 km. The lake was first mentioned in the manuscripts of Ain-I-Akbari. The first European tourist to witness the lake was a British officer named J.E. Alexander.
