The loss of electron at the time of reaction by a molecule is known as oxidation and it gains positive charge. The atoms that lost electrons are said to be oxidized and atoms can be oxidized by nonmetal. The gain of electrons at the time of reaction by the molecule is known as reduction and its gaining of negative charge. The atom that acquired electrons is said to be reduced. When electrons are lost by one atom, they must be gained by another element. Therefore oxidation and reduction cannot occur alone. If one occurs, the other must occur also. Reactions involving oxidation and reduction are called redox. So take this quiz and check your knowledge on oxidation and reduction.
