World music day that also known as Fete de la Music in French, is a music festival, which began in France in 1982. French Minister of Culture Jack Lang proposed the idea in 1981. Some theories say that American musician Joel Cohen in France, in 1976, and since then the entire world celebrates World Music Day on June 21. Now it has become a worldwide phenomenon celebrated on the same day in more than 700 cities in 120 across the world. The day is celebrated to promote peace and spread goodwill through music, this day peoples perform for free outside their house, neighborhood, in parks, museums, train stations, castles, etc. This helps in making all sorts of music accessible to the public. It gives an opportunity to commune and shares a special bond through music. The goal of Make Music Day is to provide thousands of free concerts throughout the day. Public areas are brimming with live music and participatory music-making opportunities.
